Why a water softener?
"hard" water and "soft" water?
When they refer to water as being "hard" it simply means that it contains more minerals than ordinary water. The minerals in particularly are calcium and magnesium. Water becomes harder when there's more calcium and magnesium dissolved. Water softening is removes the ions that cause the water to be "hard".

A water softener are are also environmentally friendly, helping to reduce carbon emissions by removing the build up of scale that forms insides pipes and heating systems. According to government tests, there may be as much as a 5.6% improvement.
