General Home Maintenance

Your Home Maintenance Toolbox

Getting a foothold on the property ladder isn't an easy thing these days, especially with property prices above what the average family income can cover. Even so, you've just bought your first home. You're enjoying it the fullest. Home ownership, that's the life! You're relaxing on the back deck when suddenly, something breaks, what do you do? The first thing that might come to mind would be to dig out the phone book to call a contractor but remembering that you've just bought a house, you might start thinking "ah, maybe not". Having a handy home maintenance toolbox in the house could make all the difference when it comes to that little home maintenance "interruption" to an otherwise perfect day on the back deck.

Now I'm only talking about a little home maintenance here, and not a major renovation. Things like a dripping faucet or maybe a loose door knob. Nothing too major. So for this handy home maintenance toolbox, you'll want to include some of the basics, such as;

  • Channel lock pliers
  • Needle nose pliers
  • Adjustable wrench
  • Set of Allen wrenchess
  • Screw driver set
  • Cordless-drill
  • Drill bit set from 1/8 to 1/2 inch at least
  • Tape measure
  • Hammer
  • Electric tape
  • Can of lubricant (e.g.. silicon spray, WD40)
  • A level
  • Utility knifee
  • Flashlight
  • Assortment of commonly used screws (and wall anchors) and nails.
On a self close by, you might also want a book or two like  "New Fix-It-Yourself Manual: How to Repair, Clean, and Maintain Anything and Everything in and Around Your Home (Hardcover)" and "Complete Do-It-Yourself Manual: Completely Revised and Updated"

As a homeowner, a little basic home maintenance pretty much goes with the territory. A little help from a handy little toolbox could get you back on your deck in no time.
